You could tell just by looking at Adelina. Her clothes, the way she carried herself... she definitely wasn’t the average person.

Amanda, after bumping into her, suddenly turned meek. She looked a little guilty for a second, then quickly helped Catherine up.

“Are you okay? Does anything hurt?” Her concern sounded forced, more for appearances than anything else. Like she was worried Adelina might cause trouble. Then Amanda shot a glare at Adelina.

“If you can’t even walk right, why are you wandering around? I’m warning you, she’s—”

Amanda pulled Catherine along as she spoke, bringing her right in front of Lance and Adelina. She pointed at Catherine’s stomach, ready to spill the secret.

“Lance!”

“Lance!”

Both voices rang out at the same moment.

Catherine spoke first. She didn’t know how long Lance had been standing there, or if he’d caught the conversation. Just in case, she jumped in to stop Amanda from saying too much.

Adelina was the other voice. She clung to Lance’s arm, her eyes shining with unshed tears.

“My leg really hurts. Can you take me to see a doctor? I think something’s wrong again.”

Lance’s face tightened, concern written all over him.

He picked up a blanket that had fallen, wrapped it around Adelina’s legs, and quickly wheeled her away.

Adelina was only there for a follow-up. But she’d just finished an exam and now needed another, which surprised the doctor.

He listened to what happened, then unwrapped the cast from her leg and gently pressed here and there.

“Does that hurt?”

Adelina held onto Lance’s sleeve and nodded slightly. “A little.”

“It’s nothing serious. You never had a fracture to start with. Even if you bumped it, it’d just be sore. There won’t be any dislocation.” The doctor set the cast back in place and handed over some painkillers. “Take one if you’re hurting.”
