The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 190

"Belinda." Adelina had been hoping to sneak away and find a quiet spot to rest. But when Belinda called her over, she had no choice but to sit down beside her.

"Lance is busy. As his mom, shouldn't you be a little more understanding? Besides, you're here to look after Adelina, so what's the problem? I'm not picky, so why are you?" Belinda said with a smile.

Sarah jumped in, and soon the two mothers were trading compliments about each other's children. Around them, the other elegant ladies joined in, laughing and piling on the praise.

Adelina forced a few polite words, then let herself drift into silence, just listening as everyone kept showering Belinda and Sarah with flattery. Every now and then, she glanced over at Lance, who was lost somewhere in the crowd.

Out of nowhere, she caught Gavin watching her from across the room, his stare heavy with meaning. Her heart jumped, and when he noticed her looking back, he lifted his glass in a silent toast.

Adelina frowned and quickly looked away, pretending she hadn't seen anything.

"Adelina, are you alright?" Sarah's voice cut through her thoughts.

Before coming here, Sarah had reminded her again and again that today was Ableson's birthday party. No matter how she felt about Catherine's pregnancy, she had to keep a smile on her face. Adelina had managed when they first arrived, but after her visit upstairs with Ableson, she came back down looking like she was carrying the weight of the world.

"I'm fine," Adelina replied, shaking her head.

"Adelina, could you run upstairs and grab something for me?" Sarah gave her a meaningful look. "I think I left my phone in the third floor lounge."

"Sure." Adelina stood up, turning to Belinda. "I'll be back in a minute."

Belinda grinned. "Go ahead. Don't be long."

Adelina slipped out of the group and headed for the elevators. She was waiting when she heard footsteps behind her. Gavin appeared, holding a glass of wine, and walked straight over.

The elevator doors opened just in time. Adelina stepped inside and hit the close button fast, hoping to avoid him.

"Why are you running?" Gavin blocked the doors with his arm, looking amused. "Feeling guilty about something?"
