The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 193

The birthday party for Ableson shouldn’t be over yet. So why was he here?

“Was that Lance?” Lewis spotted him too. Something clicked in his mind. “Wasn’t he just doing an interview, announcing his engagement to Adelina?”

The man leaving in a hurry shot a quick look at Lewis’s hand, which was still resting on Catherine’s waist.

By the time he’d disappeared, Catherine shook herself out of her thoughts. She quickly pushed Lewis away.

“Sorry, I just acted on instinct,” Lewis said. His hand hovered awkwardly in the air before he dropped it with a sheepish look.

Catherine straightened her shirt. “Thanks. I should go.”

She turned and walked off. Once she was back in her car, she called Sophia. The phone rang and rang, no answer, and Catherine’s nerves tightened with every second.

Finally, just before the call was about to disconnect, Sophia picked up.

“Sophia, is everything okay?” Catherine asked.

There was noise in the background, and Sophia kept her voice low. “Grandpa suddenly felt sick. His blood pressure shot up. We brought him to the hospital. How did you know?”

Catherine had only caught a glimpse of the paramedics earlier and hadn’t seen who they were helping. “I’m at the hospital,” she said quietly. “I’ll wait in the parking lot. Let me know if anything changes.”

Sophia was quick to reassure her. “Don’t worry too much. The doctor says it’s just exhaustion. He’s getting older and doesn’t like to make a fuss. Honestly, this is my mom’s fault for insisting on that big party to announce Lance and Adelina’s wedding…”

She kept venting for another minute.
