The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 467

If Geoffrey was telling the truth, then everything made sense. Still, Catherine couldn’t accept the way Adela acted.

“Have Gavin check out the Lee family,” Lance said.

He glanced outside, sunlight spilling over his face and making his jawline stand out even more.

Catherine paused, thrown off by his tone. It almost sounded like he was sulking.

“What’s wrong? Your old boss cares about you, but your new one doesn’t? Or is your current boss just not interested in his employees?” Lance said, his voice dripping with sarcasm when she didn’t answer right away.

Catherine rolled her eyes, feeling irritated. “That’s not it. I just don’t want to bother him.”

“You’re so thoughtful now. You sure didn’t mind causing me trouble back then,” Lance said, tightening his grip on the steering wheel. “I taught you everything, took you from clueless newbie to business pro. Then you just up and left for someone else. You really have no conscience.”

Catherine glanced at him, but all she could see was the back of his head and his stiff, short hair.

“We ended things on good terms. Nothing lasts forever. Did you really want me to work for you for the rest of my life?”

When they stopped at a red light, Lance hit the brakes and turned to look at her.

“So how long are you planning to work for Gavin?”

Catherine didn’t answer.

“If this is just a job, I doubt it’ll last forever. Are you planning on making things official with him?”

Even though he tried to sound casual, there was a bit of jealousy in his voice.

“That’s none of your business,” Catherine shot back.

“How is it not my business?” Lance faced forward again.

The light turned green. He pressed the gas pedal, his voice cool and steady. “Gavin’s a big name in Cabinda. I should probably get him a nice gift.”

“No need.”

The way he said it, it didn’t sound like he was thinking about gifts at all. If anything, it sounded like he was planning to cause trouble.

“You might not care, but Gavin does. He’s not exactly shy,” Lance said, his words even more cutting. “Catherine, I never thought you’d go for someone like him.”
