Maybe they had already discussed any real business while she and Latonia were out of the room. It made sense, she supposed. When lunch was over, Catherine joined Lance to walk the Lees out. Davis and Latonia got into their car, rolled down the windows, and both looked at Catherine before saying goodbye.

Catherine gave Latonia a warm smile. “See you around.”

Latonia smiled back. “I’m sure we’ll meet again.”

As the Lees’ car pulled away, a breeze caught Catherine’s hair and she quickly tucked it behind her ear. She turned to Lance.

“If there’s nothing else, I’ll get going,” she said.

Lance pulled out his car keys. “Let me drive you.”

“It’s fine. I can grab a ride easily from here.”

He looked at her, saw the clear distance in her eyes, and didn’t insist.

“Alright.”

Catherine picked up her bag and started walking away. She’d only made it a few steps when Lance called out.

“Stay away from Geoffrey and his people.”

She paused and glanced back, but Lance was already heading to his car.
