The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 486

Catherine’s Hospital Room.

The baby lay quietly at her side, surprisingly well-behaved, his tiny lips pursed as his head turned from left to right. He was a wrinkly little thing, not particularly cute by most standards, but the longer Catherine watched him, the softer her heart grew.

“Looks like Lorinda’s wish isn’t coming true after all. No arranged marriage for you. You’ll just have to be good buddies with Jasper instead,” she whispered, trying to ignore the pain from her incision as she turned to face her newborn.

She slipped her finger into his small hand. Instantly, he gripped her tight, like he already knew he belonged with her.

The television played softly in the background, tuned to some business news. Catherine hadn’t been listening, but a familiar name suddenly caught her attention, making her look up.

“The wedding of Lance, the eldest son of the James family, was stopped at the altar by his mother, who publicly declared her disapproval of the match…”

The scene flashed across the TV—a wedding broadcast live, now replayed from every angle the cameras had caught.

Belinda pushed open the grand ballroom doors, dressed in a deep red gown. Her makeup was flawless, but it couldn’t mask how upset she looked. It should have been the moment the groom made his entrance, but instead, everyone watched as Belinda walked straight to Adelina, who stood in her white wedding dress.

Belinda didn’t hesitate. She raised her arm and slapped Adelina hard across the face.

“The wedding is canceled! You’re not good enough for our family!”

Shock rippled through the crowd. Gasps and stunned faces filled the hall as Adelina’s own face twisted in terror.

“Belinda, what happened? Did I do something wrong? Where’s Lance? Did he change his mind?” Adelina’s tears fell instantly, until she was openly sobbing, the picture of heartbreak.

One moment everyone envied her, and the next, she was left abandoned in front of all their judgmental stares. Pity flickered through the room, and someone finally spoke up, unable to keep quiet in the face of such drama.

“Belinda, this isn’t right.”

“You’ve always been on board with this marriage. Did your son back out? You can’t just do this now, on their wedding day…”
