Lance said, “I’m worried about you, Harrell. If Lorinda sticks around, your injuries might get worse. Let’s just have her visit you quickly and then send her on her way.”

It was the fourth day Lorinda had been looking after Harrell. She could only hold out for one more. Everyone could see her patience had almost run out.

“Tomorrow morning works. I’ll bring her by, but you need to clear out your people first,” Harrell replied, acting like he hadn’t noticed the teasing in Lance’s voice.

Lance didn’t argue. “Okay, but let me know the second she leaves. If anyone sneaks in during that gap, I’m coming straight to you.”

With that, he turned and went back to Catherine’s room to tell her the plan. Other than business trips, Catherine and Lorinda had never gone this long without seeing each other or even talking. She was excited. Tomorrow, Lorinda could meet the baby and maybe even help name her.

Back at the hospital entrance, Lorinda marched in with a fruit basket, grumbling to herself. She wasn’t thrilled about being Harrell’s personal maid these last few days, and her expression definitely showed it.

A figure stepped right into her path, making Lorinda’s sour mood even worse.

“Who are you?” she snapped.

The woman in front of her looked to be in her forties—elegant, well-dressed, and clearly used to getting what she wanted. Lorinda glared.

“Lorinda, we’ve met before,” the woman said quietly, giving her a small smile. “At the postpartum center. You were with Catherine.”

The memory flashed through Lorinda’s mind but she kept her face blank. “Doesn’t ring a bell,” she said, trying to step around her.

“Lorinda, I really need to talk to you,” the woman insisted, hurrying along in her high heels to keep up.

“I don’t know you. I don’t have anything to say,” Lorinda shot back, not slowing down.

The woman stopped short. “It’s about Catherine. Lance has her locked up.”

Lorinda froze and spun around. “What? You can’t just make stuff up like that. Why would Lance do that?”
