The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 519

A few minutes ago, after Gavin had left, the only people left in the living room were Lance and Lorinda.

Lance was slouched in the corner of the sofa, all lazy limbs and long legs, sinking into the cushions like he owned the place. Every now and then he’d lift his head and glance toward Lanny’s nursery.

“Lance, can we talk for a minute on the balcony?” Lorinda’s tone was different for once—there was no sarcasm, just calm seriousness. Usually, whenever she saw Lance, the air practically crackled between them, but not today.

Lance didn’t seem interested. “Whatever you want to say, just say it.”

“It’s about Catherine,” Lorinda said, getting up. “And it’s about the Lee family too. I want to talk to you alone.” She looked him straight in the eye.

At the mention of the Lee family, Lance’s expression sharpened.

They stepped out onto the balcony, and Lorinda quietly locked the door behind them.

“So, how much do you actually know about the Lee family?” Lorinda leaned against the railing, looking at Lance, her face all business. “What’s really going on with Catherine? Is she in trouble?”

Lance looked out over the sunlit city, the crowded streets of Eldervale stretching out below. His eyes reflected the chaos, tiny cars and people swarming like ants.

“I don’t know all the details of what went down inside the Lee family,” he said finally, “but things aren’t looking good for Catherine.”

Lorinda’s face fell. “You mean, even you couldn’t dig up the Lee family’s dirty laundry?”

“It happened a long time ago. Family secrets, and all that. Even Davis hasn’t figured it out yet,” Lance replied.

Davis, who was part of the Lee family himself, got blindsided right in his own backyard. If even he couldn’t figure out what was happening, there was no way Lance could get to the bottom of things in just a few days.

“Davis?” Lorinda repeated softly. “How’s he connected to the Lee family?”

“He’s Geoffrey’s younger brother. You’ve met him—he’s the director of the orphanage,” Lance said, glancing over at her, his tone matter-of-fact.

Lorinda nodded. “So, are you looking into the Lee family because of Catherine? Are you thinking about helping her?”

Lance didn’t answer. Silence stretched between them for a long moment.
