The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 556

Catherine couldn't help but laugh. “If I really sold him, would you stick by his side, or would you make a run for it?”

Owen stood up and puffed out his chest, all bravado. “Of course I’d protect my nephew! Even if we both got sold, I wouldn’t let you take him away all alone!”

“That’s awfully silly of you,” Catherine teased. “If I ever did sell you two, I’d be sure to send you to different places. You’d better memorize my face so you know who to run home and tell on.”

Owen stared at her, stunned.

Just then, the lounge door opened. Catherine turned to see Davis step into the room.

Owen bolted over and clung to Davis’s hand. “Dad! She’s going to sell Jasper!”

“She’s not,” Davis reassured him. “Go find your mom and your sister—I’ll take care of this.” He gave Owen’s shoulder a gentle pat, then gestured for a bodyguard to lead him away.

Finally, Davis turned to the maid. “Take Jasper downstairs.”

The maid crossed over to Catherine, but the moment she reached for Jasper, he spun around and threw his arms tight around Catherine’s neck.

“Mama! Mama!” He called out, his words garbled but desperate.

Catherine smoothed Jasper’s back and said gently, “Let him stay.”

The maid looked to Davis, who nodded. With a silent bow, the maid left them alone.

“Catherine, none of us want you here,” Davis said, his words blunt. “Today is a special day for Lorinda coming home. I don’t want you spoiling it.”

Latonia hadn’t realized Catherine was here yet. If she found out, all her happiness would vanish.

“I’m sorry to interrupt, Mr. Lee,” Catherine said, nodding toward the gift box on the sofa. “I’m just passing along a congratulatory gift from Lance.”
