It wasn’t easy for Sophia to dig into what Catherine had been up to during the past six months away from HQ, especially since she had to do it on the sly. Today, people were saying Catherine had gone to visit Gavin at the hospital, so Sophia hustled over to see if she could get the scoop.

“We’re not really that close,” Catherine answered honestly. “Don’t forget, he’s Lance’s rival.”

If she acted too familiar with Gavin, that would definitely be crossing a line.

“Oh, right. Just making conversation, don’t mind me,” Sophia replied quickly.

Catherine just watched her, those sharp, clear eyes waiting to see if Sophia would push further.

But instead, Sophia stood up, brushing off her skirt. “I’m going to grab some lunch for you. Sit tight.”

“Wait…” Catherine started, but it was pointless. Sophia took off, darting away faster than a rabbit.

On her way back with lunch from a spot nearby, Sophia called Fiona.

“She says she’s not close with Gavin. Grandma, do you actually believe her?”

Fiona let out a sigh. “At this point, every man who’s ever spoken to Catherine is suspicious.”

Sophia groaned. There were so many men at the branch who’d interacted with Catherine, she’d be old and gray before she checked them all.

Might as well start with the easiest one. At least Gavin was a public figure, so it’d be easier to look into his movements over the last six months…

With ten minutes left before work picked up again, Sophia dropped off the lunch for Catherine.

Catherine finished eating in a flash, sipped some warm water, then gathered her things. She was getting ready to go to a client meeting with Lance.

“Lance, bring me with you,” Adelina pleaded, trailing after him like his personal shadow. “I won’t get in the way. I’ll just sit quietly, promise.”

Lance strode over to Catherine, his patience clearly fading. “Stay here at the office.”

“No,” Adelina pouted, stomping her foot. “I don’t want to be away from you.”
