“A love letter. The reason I’ve been so caught up with Catherine is because I’ve admired her for ages, and I’m actually trying to win her over. I guess I’m kind of old school about romance. I wanted to do things the traditional way, so I started this whole letter-writing thing with her. We talk through letters. Want to see one? I brought one with me. I could read it out loud if you want.”
Gavin pulled a folded letter from his pocket and smoothed it out.
Lance shot him a sharp look, eyes cold and focused. He couldn’t see what was written, but the whole page was covered in tight handwriting.
His jaw was set, lips pressed together.
Gavin’s easygoing voice echoed through the room. “Gavin, being apart from you for one day feels like three years…”
“Gavin!” Catherine cut in, shaking her head at him.
Now was really not the time for this.
Gavin glanced at her, his smile growing as he folded the letter up again.
“Catherine’s embarrassed, so I’ll keep it to myself,” he said, still grinning.
He didn’t even try to hide how he felt about her. Not in front of anyone.
He’d just pulled her out of one mess, only to throw her into another.
But he wasn’t finished. He strolled right over and stood next to her, eyes glinting with mischief. “Catherine, after everything I just did for you, you owe me dinner tonight.”
With everyone watching, Catherine hesitated. She couldn’t bring herself to say yes, but turning him down felt impossible too.
Gavin had shown up alone at SilverLeaf Industries, risking rejection just for her. She owed him for that.
But he was still SilverLeaf’s biggest competitor.
“Gavin, the data leak came from Golden Horizon Enterprises. Your company,” Lance finally spoke, his voice calm but serious. His eyes landed on the two of them. “Your story doesn’t really cover it.”
He was clearly hinting that Gavin’s love letter explanation wasn’t enough.
“I’ve never done anything like that in all my years at Golden Horizon. I’ve actually been on leave lately, not involved in anything at work,” Gavin replied immediately. “I asked around. This was my dad’s doing.”
