The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 93

Catherine had the kind of body that turned heads, and with a face that could stop traffic, she made even the plainest clothes look like they belonged on a runway.

Adelina’s eyes narrowed, suddenly alert.

The way she stared made Catherine feel anxious, like she was sitting on a bed of nails.

Lance checked his watch, set his work aside, and looked up. “What do you want to eat? I can have room service bring it up.”

“I want you to come downstairs and eat with me,” Adelina said, her voice softening as she finally looked away from Catherine.

“Alright.” Lance turned to grab his phone from the desk. “You keep going.”

Those last words were for Catherine.

“I’ll take these back to my room and finish them,” Catherine said. “I’ll have everything done by tomorrow morning.”

She stood, stacked the files with her laptop, and left quickly with her head down.

Lance just hummed in response, his deep eyes following her as she practically ran out the door.

That night, Catherine had dinner sent to her room. She was doing her best to avoid everyone, but when it came time for a client dinner, there was no way to skip out.

The next morning at ten, Lance sent her a message: Meet at the hotel entrance.

Catherine changed into a fresh blouse, grabbed her briefcase, and stepped out of her suite.

She got in the elevator and hit the button for the lobby. The doors were almost closed when a large hand shot out and stopped them.

“Wait up!”

Gavin rushed inside, a little out of breath. “Catherine, don’t tell me you saw me coming and tried to close the doors on purpose.”

Catherine edged into the corner. “No, I didn’t.”

She really hadn’t seen him. If she had, she would have closed them faster.

“What’s with the layers?” Gavin pressed the button again and glanced her way.

She had buttoned her shirt all the way up and wore a mask, though she’d pulled it down to her chin, hiding her neck.
