The Billionaire's True Heiress From Fake Jewel to Real Crown novel Chapter 122

“I know this medicine must be expensive, but you’re both so kind. Please, save my child!”

She was putting Claire and Valeria on the spot, making it impossible to say no. If they refused, would everyone think they were heartless? The woman even made a point of saying she knew the medicine cost a lot. If they didn’t hand it over, would it look like they were just being stingy?

She was definitely clever. Greedy, too, and she knew how to play people.

The way she cried, so desperate and pitiful, pulled at everyone’s heartstrings. Sympathy started to shift toward her again.

“Just give her the medicine. If her daughter’s face gets scarred, that’s forever,” someone in the crowd said.

Valeria glanced at Claire, completely at a loss for how to say no.

Claire’s face stayed cool and unreadable. “The ambulance is almost here. You can hear the sirens already.”

“Your daughter’s about to get help. She’s lost a lot of blood and will probably need a transfusion.”

“Instead of wasting time here, you should be taking your daughter to find a police officer. They can help get her to the hospital faster.”

Claire was trying to offer a real solution, trying to keep things calm.

But the woman hesitated, her eyes darting around. “We don’t have money. We’re not going to the hospital. Just give me the medicine!”

Something felt off to Claire.

The woman wasn’t just afraid of going to the hospital. She seemed even more on edge at the mention of the police and blood transfusions.

Why? Was she more scared of the police, or the idea of a transfusion?

Claire looked closer at the little girl who was still sobbing in the woman’s arms, her face streaked with blood. It hit Claire that the child wasn’t clinging to her mother like you’d expect. She was squirming, trying to get away.

At first, Claire figured the child was just hurting and restless. But now, she wasn’t sure this was really the girl’s mother.

“The hospital isn’t going to overcharge you. In cases like this, there’s compensation. You won’t have to pay anything,” Claire tried to explain again.

The woman’s arms tightened around the child. She snatched up her bag, ready to bolt.
