He pushed Claire back, rolling over until he was on top of her. “What do you think?” His voice was low and rough, his eyes fixed on hers.

Claire felt like she couldn’t move, trapped under Dane’s gaze. Suddenly, she slipped her arms around his neck. “Dane, I’m still young. I need to wait two more years before I can even think about dating.”

Her eyes were dangerously captivating.

Dane’s throat tightened. His gaze grew darker as he gently pried her hands away. “Don’t joke like that.”

“You wouldn’t dare,” Claire teased, sitting up. She leaned back, grinning as she picked up her milk tea and took a sip.

Dane watched her. “That’s my drink.”

Claire froze, embarrassed, the milk tea stuck in her mouth. She couldn’t decide whether to swallow or spit it out. She peeked at Dane. “Then… want to swap?”

Dane gave her a long, meaningful look. “Didn’t you just say you had to wait two years?”

“Doesn’t mean I can’t make an early reservation.”

Claire yawned, her eyes going a little red at the corners. Dane caught himself wanting to remind her not to stay out too late.

“Do you even realize what you’re saying?” Dane wasn’t buying the whole love-at-first-sight act. He was pretty sure she just liked messing with him.

“Dane, you really don’t know how good-looking you are?”

Claire’s smile was bright and fearless. She didn’t seem fazed by him at all.

Of course Dane knew—with his family and looks, he never lacked attention. Women were always trying to get close to him. But none of them interested him. The girl in front of him, though, was something else entirely.

“Don’t go provoking me. You can’t handle what comes next.” Dane gave her one last warning.

Then he actually picked up her milk tea and took a sip, letting the cool sweetness chase away some of the heat inside him.

Claire just shot his warning right back at him. “Same to you. You have no idea what you’re getting into with me.”
