She glanced at her watch and smiled, “Molly, thank you. If it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t have realized Cindy’s struggles at school were coming from something deeper.”
“I’ll get her a therapist, help her work through it.”
“And please, keep an eye on her at school for me.”
“If you can’t reach me, you can always contact my son, Lance.”
Octavia’s gaze lingered on Molly for a moment. “By the way, do you know Lance well? He’s Cindy’s older brother.”
“I think he’d really like a girl like you. You’re so sweet and thoughtful, always looking out for his sister.”
“It’s just that he’s all about his career right now. He’s not even thinking about dating.”
“And you’re still a bit young.”
“But maybe when you’re older, I could introduce you two and see if you hit it off.”
Under the table, Molly squeezed her fist in a silent celebration.
Finally, she’d done it.
All the effort, all the right words, just to make sure Octavia liked her. If Octavia was on her side, her chances with Lance shot way up.
Her family wasn’t that rich. But if the James family supported them… Molly could almost see that life of luxury waiting for her. She felt like she could fly.
“Lance is incredible, but right now I just want to focus on my studies,” she said with a bashful smile.
“If Cindy wasn’t my best friend, I wouldn’t have said anything. But we’re so close, and I can’t stand to watch her fall apart like this.”
Octavia nodded warmly. “Cindy’s lucky to have a friend like you.”
She even ordered two desserts for Molly to take home, then excused herself and left.
Molly felt unstoppable.
Valeria watched Molly leave the café, then immediately called Claire.
