The second Sophia’s mom heard the word “bitch,” she completely lost it.

“See? That brat hasn’t been taught a lesson yet! Listen to the garbage coming out of her mouth!”

“Her son’s disgusting, and she’s no better!”

“Dean, I say kick her son out of this school!”

“And about that fight, let’s just head to the police station right now!”

“My husband’s a lawyer anyway. Saves us a ton on legal fees!” Sophia’s mom could hardly hide her pride as she said that. Honestly, she’d actually met her husband years ago because of a fight, so this was kind of her thing.

The second Jasper’s mom heard that Cicely’s husband was a lawyer, her attitude changed. She didn’t exactly fear lawyers, but her family was in business. Her husband had always said, only deal with people like that if you absolutely have to. No reason to invite trouble.

Even so, Jasper’s mom tried to keep her tough act going. “Fine, police it is. Dean, you have to stand up for Jasper. Look what those kids did to him!”

“Those two little…” She was about to spit out “bitches” again, but Sophia’s mom was glaring at her with such icy eyes, she swallowed it. Bonnie had to change her tune. “Claire, they bullied my son and then lied about him. They owe him an apology!”

Claire didn’t even blink. “Ma’am, your son started it. You saw what he said. If you want, we can show the security footage to everyone and let the whole school decide if he deserved a punch or not.”

“I’ll pay for the medical bills. But I want Jasper to apologize to us, in public, in front of everyone.”

Jasper shot out of his seat like he’d been burned. “No way! I’m not apologizing!”

He still wanted to keep his reputation at school. If everyone saw the video, they’d all know what kind of jerk he really was. Sure, Claire wasn’t the James family’s real daughter anymore, but that didn’t mean the Jameses would let him get away with this. He’d be the one who lost everything. Besides, he’d just met his dream girl in the cafeteria today. He was so over Claire. No way was he letting his goddess see him like this.

“See? Even your son knows he’s wrong,” Claire said, turning to Bonnie.
