When Jason returned, he found Lilly fast asleep. Her small body was curled up on his sofa, sleeping soundly.
He put down the files in his hand, loosened the tie around his neck, and sat down on the edge of the sofa.
He gently patted Lilly’s cheek. “Wake up, sleepyhead.”
Lilly just turned over, her soft body snuggling closer to him. She murmured like a kitten, “Don’t bother me. I’m sleeping.”
Jason watched her. Her delicate face was flushed with a soft, rosy glow from her nap. She looked so sweet and innocent.
Sitting there, Jason reached out and gathered her into his arms.
Lilly felt his warmth and immediately found a more comfortable position against him, continuing her slumber.
Jason covered her with a blanket, holding her with one arm while he reviewed documents with the other.
Just then, Kent walked in. “Mr. Farill…”
Jason shot him a sharp, displeased look. “Shh. Quietly.”
Kent finally noticed Lilly and immediately lowered his voice. “My apologies, Mr. Farill.”
“What is it?”
“Mr. Farill, Hanna and Frank are here to see you.”
Jason’s handsome face showed no trace of emotion. He said coolly, “It’s not a good time. Tell them to go home.”
“Yes, sir.”
Kent went back outside, where Hanna and Frank were waiting.
Hanna started forward. “Kent, is Jason in there? I’m going in to see him.”
But Kent blocked her path. “I’m sorry, Hanna, but the president isn’t seeing visitors right now.”
Frank looked confused. “Why not? Didn’t his meeting just end?”
