The Heartless Alpha’s Beloved Luna (Avery and Gideon) novel Chapter 416

And, to make matters worse, there was another young woman who was vying for an engagement.

Fiona. The young, barely eighteen-year-old daughter of Alpha Matthew.

Perhaps Deirdre would have felt threatened by Fiona, but all Katya saw was an opportunity. So, the very day I found out about the girl, 1 gave my employer my letter of resignation and sent Alpha Matthew my resume, proposing myself for the position of his daughter’s assistant.

Two weeks passed. I feared he wouldn’t respond, but surprisingly, he did. He said he would hear me out-that Fiona had come across some misfortune and might benefit from the assistance of an older, more experienced woman.

We arranged to meet in Evergreen pack.

That was when I found her there. Avery. Alive and well, Looking older and more haggard, but definitely her. She recognized me at first, but when she saw my new face, she thought twice.

I walked away from her with my jaw clenched and a bitter feeling churning in my gut.

Alpha Matthew was at the restaurant in town, sitting by himself, sipping from a coffee cup as he looked out overthe square.

“Alpha Matthew?” I walked up to his table and extended my hand.

“Katya. Pleasure to meet you.”

He shook my hand with a firm grip. “I’m glad you made it, Katya. Please, sit.”

I sat and ordered myself a tea from the waiter. Once we were alone again, Matthew turned to me. “So. You think you can help my daughter.”

I nodded. “You mentioned that she’s been facing some difficulties.”

The Alpha sighed. “Something like that. She’s young and inexperienced, and this Alpha-Gideon—has turned his back on what could have been a very beneficial engagement.”

My teeth tightened together, but I maintained a smile. “l know Gideon,” I said.

He arched a brow. “You do?”

“Well. I did.” I waved my hand. “We were acquaintances once, years ago. I used to work for him.” I leaned forward. ” He always had a habit of being non-committal. But when it came to Avery, he was quite different.”

“Tell me about it.” The Alpha scoffed and took a sip of his coffee. “She’s been nothing but trouble since her return. told Gideon that he could still have her as a mistress if he would just give the title of Luna to my daughter, but…””But he refused,” I said.
