The IVF Secret That Shook a Dynasty novel Chapter 419

Vivica gave him a gentle push. “You should go. Don’t be late for your work.”

Then she turned to Roderic with a smile. “Roderic, please drive carefully and stay safe.”

“Don’t worry, Mrs. Baird. We’ll take good care of the boss,” Roderic replied, a playful glint in his eye.

Joseph, however, stood rooted to the spot, his eyes fixed on Vivica. He didn’t turn, and he didn’t speak.

Vivica glanced at him and instantly understood. Shedding her earlier shyness and not wanting to delay him further, she stepped forward, wrapped her arms around him, and stood on her toes to press a kiss to the corner of his mouth.

“I’ll miss you,” she whispered, so softly that only he could hear.

Roderic, who had tactfully turned away to give them privacy, still caught the words and smiled to himself.

Joseph turned and shot his subordinate a glare. “Let’s go!”

Roderic turned back and waved to Vivica. “We’re off, Mrs. Baird!”

“Okay, be safe.” Vivica waved back, watching them leave.

She couldn’t help but take a few more steps forward, stopping at the glass wall to watch Joseph’s tall, straight figure walk into the curtain of snow and get into the car. She stood there, mesmerized, until the car’s taillights vanished into the blizzard. After a long moment, she sighed and turned to go back upstairs.

Just as she stepped into the elevator, her phone rang. She pulled it out and saw it was an unknown number.

Curious, she answered it.

“Hello?”

“I haven’t been tested yet. Maybe I could go to the hospital sometime and try. What if…”

Vivica didn’t know how to respond. If only he had realized this sooner. Their bitter fight had cost him his reputation, his fortune, and even his own father’s life. Was he now trying to repent and play the good father?

Though a part of her wanted to seize any sliver of hope, she ultimately refused. “Don’t. It’s a long shot, and I don’t want you getting involved.”

“A small hope is still hope, isn’t it? Many successful matches are found in strangers. Why can’t I at least try? What if I happen to be one of those low-probability cases? Chaim would be saved.”

Fletcher had clearly prepared his argument. It was so logical and well-reasoned that Vivica found it hard to refuse.

When she remained silent, he quickly added, “I’ll have some free time next week. I’ll go to the hospital then and get in touch with you.”

“Fletcher, no—” Vivica tried to protest, but before she could finish, he hung up.
