The IVF Secret That Shook a Dynasty novel Chapter 418

“Just tell them not yet,” Joseph coached her. “The doctor said it’s too early to tell anyway. Even if you are, it would take a few days for a test to show it.”

When it came to smoothing things over with his parents, Joseph had gotten good at it years ago.

Vivica shot him a look, speechless.

...

The next day, Joseph left for his business trip.

Vivica had wanted to see him off at the airport, but with the temperature dropping and another round of snow, Joseph didn’t want her to go to the trouble. They said their goodbyes at the hospital instead.

“Can I at least walk you downstairs?” she asked, looking at him with a surprising pang of reluctance.

Ever since they had been honest about their feelings, she found herself smiling secretly whenever she saw him. Sometimes Joseph would catch her stealing a glance, and she’d quickly look away. Though they were husband and wife, it felt more like they were a couple in the throes of a new romance.

“It’s cold outside. Why would you go down?” Joseph’s luggage and briefcase were already in the car, where Roderic and another lawyer were waiting.

“When I get back from this trip, the firm is having its annual gala. You’re coming with me.”

Joseph figured it was time to introduce her publicly, to let everyone know that he was a married man.

Vivica’s stomach flipped. “The firm’s annual gala? There’ll be a lot of important people there. What if I embarrass you?”

“I’m the biggest shot there. If you’re not afraid of me, who else is there to be afraid of?”

Vivica followed him out the door, muttering, “Who said I’m not? You used to make me feel like I was in the principal’s office every time I saw you.”

Joseph stopped at the elevator and pressed the down button. Hearing her, he turned back, a look of surprise on his handsome face.

Vivica smiled without answering. He really did understand. He knew his old stern and solemn demeanor was intimidating.

Hand in hand, they stepped into the elevator and rode it down together.

Vivica truly didn’t want him to go, but she couldn’t bring herself to say it. His work was too important, and she didn’t want him to be distracted or worried about things at home.

So, when they reached the entrance of the hospital wing and Joseph stopped, insisting it was too cold for her to come any further, she took the initiative. “Go on, and don’t worry about a thing,” she said. “I promise I’ll take good care of Chaim, Sheridan and Melanie. You don’t need to worry.”

Joseph nodded. “See? Having you makes a difference. I know things are covered here.”

“Of course.”

Roderic, probably anxious about the time, walked in from outside. “Boss, the snow’s making the roads slippery. We should get going, just in case we hit delays.”
