The IVF Secret That Shook a Dynasty novel Chapter 436

Seeing he was clearly failing to manage Sheridan and Melanie, Vivica waved him over, and Joseph quickly returned to the bedside.

“Mom, I'll let Vivica talk to you.”

Vivica took the phone and, mustering her energy, spent a good while comforting and reassuring her in-laws until they finally believed her injuries weren't severe.

Only then did they relax a little.

“Mom, don't come over. Just take good care of Chaim. I'll come back tomorrow and rest in Chaim's room for a day. I should be fine then.”

Melanie sighed. “Alright then. Joseph will stay with you tonight. He shouldn't come over. We'll stay here with Chaim.”

“Okay. Thank you, Mom and Dad.”

After hanging up, Vivica relaxed, the forced cheerfulness vanishing from her face.

“Get some rest. Don't worry about anything else,” Joseph urged, placing the phone back on the table.

Vivica looked at him with a distant gaze.

“God must think I'm too lucky, that I've been given too much, so He decided to give me a little scare,” she said softly, trying to comfort Joseph.

The man shot her a look. “Nonsense.”

“It's true. Look, I met you, and I met your parents, and you're all so wonderful. You know, in real life, you might have a great husband but terrible in-laws, or great in-laws but a husband with a ton of flaws. And more often than not, both the husband and the in-laws are a mess. To be as lucky as I am is one in a million. How could God not be a little jealous?”

Her words made Joseph laugh.

“This afternoon, the bodyguard told me you were singing my praises to Fletcher. Now that I'm here in person, do you need to praise me all over again?”

Vivica asked, “Do you want to hear it? I'll praise you if you want.”

“Never mind. You should just get some rest.”

Joseph sat on the edge of the bed, watching her quietly, his hand resting on her head, gently stroking her hair.

“What a coincidence. The moment I go on a business trip, you get into trouble,” he mused, frowning.

But Vivica misinterpreted his words and turned to look at him. “What do you mean? You suspect the accident wasn't an accident?”

Joseph shook his head, but before he could speak, his phone rang.

He picked it up and saw it was the head of the traffic police department.

“You rest. I'm going to step out and take this call.” He grabbed his phone and stood up.

Vivica assumed it was a work call and didn't think much of it.

Joseph walked out, closed the door, and took a few more steps away before answering. “Hello…”

“Mr. Baird, I just received word. The driver who caused the accident didn't make it. He passed away.”

Joseph's brow furrowed slightly. He wasn't surprised.

But even though the man was at fault and had nearly killed his wife, Joseph hadn't wanted him to die.
