The IVF Secret That Shook a Dynasty novel Chapter 439

But Raymond’s tone was much warmer and more familiar.

"Vivica, Zavier told me you were in a car accident yesterday?"

So, it was Zavier who told him, Vivica thought.

"Yes."

"How are you? Are you badly hurt? Are you in the hospital?" Raymond asked with immediate concern.

Fearing he might fly all the way out to visit her, Vivica quickly clarified, "Mr. Smith, my injuries aren't serious. It's just a concussion. A few days of bed rest and I'll be fine. Thank you for your concern."

"A concussion?" Raymond sounded surprised. "From the video Zavier sent me, the crash scene was a wreck. The other car was completely totaled, and yours was mangled beyond recognition…"

"Yes, the other driver didn't make it. He passed away." A shadow crossed Vivica's mind as she said it. Even though she was the victim, being connected to someone's death, however indirectly, left a dark cloud over her.

Raymond was silent for a moment.

Unsure what his silence meant, Vivica took the initiative. "Was there anything else, Mr. Smith? If not, I need to get some rest."

"Oh, no, that's it. Are you sure your injuries aren't serious?" Raymond still sounded skeptical.

"I'm sure. Isn't the fact that I'm talking to you perfectly fine proof enough? I know what you're thinking, Mr. Smith. Seeing the state of the cars, you probably thought I was a goner. But I guess fate was on my side. I cheated death," Vivica said with a self-deprecating laugh.

Raymond chuckled softly. "As long as you understand what I meant. Alright, if you're not seriously hurt, then we can all breathe a sigh of relief. I'll see you next time I'm in Riverdale for business."

"Okay, goodbye."

After the call ended, Vivica didn't dwell on it. She went back to chatting with her colleagues and then had a video call with Melanie to see her son.

But for Raymond, the conversation was far from over. His face was grim, and he couldn't focus on his work.

He wanted to contact Joseph but didn't have his number. Fortunately, Joseph's law firm was well-known.

He found the firm's front desk number on their official website. After a few calls and some persistence, he finally managed to get a message relayed to Joseph's office.

Fannie knocked on the door and entered after getting permission.

Joseph was buried in work, trying to clear his desk of urgent matters so he could return to the hospital by noon to be with Vivica.

Without looking up, he said, "I'm leaving early. I've handled these files; you can follow up on the rest. If anything comes up this afternoon, find me at the hospital."

"Hello, Mr. Smith," he answered immediately.

Raymond's voice was just as serious. "Mr. Baird, Vivica was in a car accident yesterday. How bad are her injuries?"

"She's okay. A few stitches on her forehead, a concussion, and some soft tissue bruising. She'll be fine after a few days of rest."

Raymond had thought Vivica was downplaying her condition. Hearing Joseph confirm it brought him some relief. "I called Vivica, and she said the same thing. That's good to hear."

"You called Vivica?" Joseph asked, his brow suddenly tightening. "Did you hear something from her? Or do you know something about the crash? Why did you tell my receptionist it was about Vivica's safety?"

Raymond hesitated. The truth was, he had no proof, only a judgment call based on past 'experience.' If he was wrong, he could cause a lot of trouble for Joseph and Vivica.

"Mr. Smith?" Joseph prompted when the line went silent.

Raymond snapped back to the present. "Mr. Baird, it's like this. Zavier sent me the viral video of the accident yesterday. After watching it… I couldn't help but be reminded of the car crash my uncle was in years ago."

Joseph's expression turned sharp and tense. "What do you mean? The crash that left him paralyzed… was it deliberate?"

"We've always believed it was, but we could never find any evidence. The driver in that crash also died, and with no one to testify, the police ruled it an accident."
