The lights in the room went out. Joseph lay down and turned to face Vivica.
Vivica wanted to turn toward him, but any movement sent a wave of dizziness and pain through her head.
She found a little relief only when she lay perfectly still, like a board.
Sensing her struggle, Joseph whispered, "Don't move. I know it's uncomfortable lying in one position for so long, but just bear with it for now."
As he spoke, his warm breath brushed against her ear.
Vivica shivered, a small tremor running through her.
Joseph frowned. "Why are you trembling? Are you not feeling well?"
"No, it's…" She turned her head slightly, her gaze meeting his, a blush coloring her cheeks. "When you talk, the warmth tickles my ear…"
A playful, almost wicked smile touched Joseph's lips as he inched closer to her.
"So sensitive?" His voice deepened, becoming a soft, seductive murmur.
Vivica bit her lip, saying nothing.
For a couple in the throes of new love, a day apart felt like an eternity, and they had been separated for several days. They both knew exactly what the other was thinking.
Unfortunately, Vivica's concussion meant she couldn't be active, and her period hadn't completely ended yet.
So, the dangerous topic had to be avoided, brought to a halt before it could go any further.
Joseph's breathing grew noticeably heavier. Seeing Vivica's tension and knowing tonight was impossible, he took a deep, steadying breath to quell the fire within him.
"Get some sleep. We have a lot to do tomorrow," he murmured, his voice laced with affection.
Vivica didn't speak, but where her hand rested between them, she could faintly feel his body's reaction. Involuntarily, her fingers twitched.
At that tiny movement, Joseph's eyes flew open, and he stared at her in disbelief.
"What are you doing? Getting a little naughty after just a few days apart?"
She knew he was barely holding back, yet she was deliberately teasing him.
Vivica turned her head to look at him, but the effort brought back the dizzy spell.
"No… I-It was an accident."
Joseph just stared at her, his expression unreadable, as if weighing whether to believe her.
Feeling flustered under his gaze, Vivica quickly changed the subject. "Um… should we maybe go for a check-up in a few days? To prepare for pregnancy in a more scientific, logical way?"
Joseph saw right through her attempt to defuse the awkwardness. He shot her a look and said coolly, "We'll talk about it in a few days."
With that, he took her small hand, which was resting between them, and enclosed it firmly in his, placing it on her side—as if to pin it down and prevent any more mischief.
Vivica pressed her lips together, her cheeks growing even warmer.

"Thank you, Harvey. Let's wait for Joseph to get back this afternoon and decide then."
"Alright. Well, I'm off to work. Call me if you need anything. I'm close by, so it'll be easy for me to handle things."
"Okay, thanks, Harvey."
Watching Harvey leave, Vivica felt another surge of emotion.
Birds of a feather flock together.
Joseph was a good man, and even his best friend was just as solid and dependable. The universe must have been jealous of her, she thought, and decided to throw a few scares and obstacles her way to balance things out.
Lying in bed was incredibly boring, so Vivica asked a nurse to raise the head of the bed so she could use her phone.
The news of the car accident had spread like wildfire online, so all her colleagues at the company knew.
Some had tagged her in the group chat with messages of concern, while others had sent private messages.
She hadn't had time to reply yesterday, so she now took the time to thank everyone for their well wishes.
Just as she finished, a voice call request popped up on her screen.
She froze for a moment, her brow furrowing as she saw Raymond's profile picture. It seemed the news of her accident had even reached him all the way in Sydville.
After a brief hesitation, Vivica accepted the call.
"Hello, Mr. Smith," she said, her tone polite and formal, still accustomed to their professional relationship.
