As Vivica walked inside with her mother-in-law and son, her thoughts drifted back to Joseph, a lingering knot of worry in her chest.

During dinner, Vivica paused thoughtfully before looking at her in-laws. "Joseph had to go out of town for work today. He'll be back tomorrow."

Sheridan took the news calmly. "Traveling for work is perfectly normal for him. Even when he wasn't traveling, he rarely came home to see us anyway. Now that he's married, his personality has improved a bit, and he's actually showing some filial piety."

Vivica had expected them to be surprised or feel disrespected that their son hadn't told them he was leaving.
