Joseph found it endearing to watch the elders exchange their polite pleasantries. When he turned to speak to Vivica, he noticed her eyes were noticeably red.
"What's wrong? Why are you crying?" he asked, leaning in and keeping his voice low.
She quickly tried to compose herself, forcing a smile as she glanced at him. "It's nothing... I'm just so overwhelmed, so happy. Plus, with the pregnancy hormones, I couldn't hold it back." She took a deep breath, trying to laugh it off, but a stray tear slipped down her cheek anyway.
He immediately picked up a soft napkin to dab her eyes.
The gesture caught everyone's attention, prompting a chorus of concern: "Why is Vivica crying? Did something happen?"
"Is she not feeling well?"
"Joseph, did you upset her?"
Before he could explain, Vivica quickly waved her hands. "No, no, I'm perfectly fine! I just looked around and felt so incredibly moved. Add that to the pregnancy mood swings, and I just lost it for a second..."
Her explanation drew chuckles around the table. The women nodded in understanding. "Pregnancy does that to you. The smallest things can make you so emotional."
"Alright, alright, enough of the tear-jerkers. Let's eat," Melanie declared, gracefully changing the subject and inviting Hillary and the rest to dig in.
Vivica finally calmed down. Under the table, however, she couldn't help but tightly grip her husband's hand.
