The round trip to drop them off took an hour and a half. After they left, Vivica chatted with Sheridan and Melanie for a bit before taking Chaim back to their room to wash up.
By the time she finished her own shower and got into bed, the little boy was already fast asleep. She let out a contented sigh, leaned back against the headboard, and checked the time on her phone. Figuring a certain someone should be on his way back, she gave him a call.
Joseph was indeed on his drive home. The moment he saw her name on the screen, a smile touched his lips before he even answered. "Hmm? You're not asleep yet?"
"You aren't back yet. How could I sleep?" Her tone was playful, a wide smile on her face.
"I'll be there soon. About twenty minutes."
"Okay."
"Is Chaim asleep?"
"Yeah. I gave him a bath and put on a bedtime story for him to listen to. By the time I got out of the shower, he was out like a light." She turned to look at their son, sighing happily. "He's such a good boy. Always has been. Your family has some amazing genetics."
She instinctively rested a hand over her still-flat stomach. She wondered if the two little ones growing inside her would be as well-behaved and easy to handle as their older brother.
Joseph chuckled at her praise. "Your mouth has been as sweet as honey lately."
"Is it? Have you tasted it?"
The flirtatious words slipped out before she could stop them. She blushed instantly, but it was too late to take them back.
Behind the wheel, the formidable Mr. Baird was caught off guard by his wife's teasing. He paused for a second before firing back, "I'll make sure to get a taste the minute I walk through the door."
"Nonsense. I'm ignoring you!"
Even through the phone, she could vividly picture the wicked smirk on his face, making her heart race even faster.
