Raymond had heard the noise too and was about to head over when Joseph stopped him. "You stay here and entertain the guests. I'll handle this."
Since Joseph hardly knew any of the local guests, it would be awkward for him to receive their condolences anyway. Raymond was much better suited for that role.
And as a seasoned lawyer, Joseph was an expert at dealing with unreasonable thugs.
Raymond nodded. "Alright. Be careful. Call me if things get out of hand."
"Don't worry. I'm more than capable of handling them," Joseph replied confidently, turning back toward the entrance.
Just as he suspected, Sullivan and Sean Chase's families were causing a massive scene outside the memorial hall.
"We are part of the Chase family! We are his legitimate relatives! On what grounds are you keeping us out?"
"What kind of shady business are you hiding in there that you won't even let family pay their respects to the dead?!"
"Hillary! Get out here! Stop hiding!"
The wives of the two Chase brothers, both in their sixties, were shrieking at the top of their lungs, their voices booming across the hall.
They had brought their entire families—sons, daughters, and even grandchildren. A chaotic mob of over a dozen people was trying to force their way in.
The only ones missing were Sullivan and Sean themselves, who were currently sitting in jail. Going to prison in their sixties was undoubtedly going to be a miserable experience, but after decades of living off ill-gotten luxury, it was high time they got a taste of real suffering.
Joseph strolled over with unhurried grace. Seeing him approach, the funeral staff immediately bowed respectfully. "Mr. Baird."
