The call was to Roderic.
To be safe, Joseph had instructed Roderic to keep a security team on standby in a reception room near the memorial hall just in case.
It turned out to be a very smart move.
Less than two minutes after Joseph hung up, Roderic marched over with seven or eight imposing men in tow.
"Mr. Baird, we'll take it from here. Please go back to your guests," Roderic said efficiently. With a flick of his wrist, the burly, suit-clad bodyguards surged forward and completely surrounded the rowdy crowd.
Bertha stumbled backward in sheer terror. "W-what are you doing?! I swear, if you lay a hand on me, I'll throw myself on the ground and claim assault!"
The bodyguards didn't flinch. They simply formed an impenetrable human wall and began advancing, forcing the group backward step by step.
"If you refuse to leave, we will physically remove you," Roderic warned smoothly. "Feel free to throw yourself on the ground. The security cameras will record exactly what happened. And if you're thinking about extortion, you might want to ask yourself if you can afford a lawyer better than Mr. Baird."
Roderic wasn't just showing off. The Chase families had been living in absolute disgrace for months. The heads of their households were locked up, the company was no longer under their control, and all their bank accounts had been frozen by the authorities. Let alone hiring a top-tier lawyer, they were likely surviving by pawning off whatever luxury goods they had left just to buy groceries.
Hearing Roderic's words, the arrogance instantly drained from Bertha's face, replaced by raw panic.
"Mom, what do we do? We're not going to get a single dime out of them today..." her son hissed.
"Yeah, Bertha, what was the point of this?" another relative grumbled. "We thought if we brought a big crowd, they'd care too much about their public image to turn us away. Now we can't even get close enough to see Hillary!"
Catching their whispered complaints, Joseph fully understood their true motive. They were entirely broke, desperate, and had come to crash the funeral hoping to beg for cash.
The older women collapsed on the floor, wailing at the top of their lungs, screaming apologies to the sister-in-law they had spent their entire lives looking down on.
Inside the memorial hall, sitting quietly in her wheelchair, Hillary heard the hysterical crying echoing from the entrance. Her red, swollen eyes fluttered open.
"Vivica, what's happening out there?" she asked softly.
"Mom, it's the Chase family," Vivica explained gently. "But Joseph is handling it. You don't need to worry about them."
Listening to the desperate, sobbing apologies of her former tormentors, Hillary's expression turned hazy with disbelief.
Never in her wildest dreams did she ever imagine she would live to see the day the Chase family got on their knees to beg for her forgiveness.
