The Last Time I Cried Your Name novel Chapter 105

Petty didn’t let any emotion show on her face. She just nodded. “Okay. Got it.”

Amy glanced at her. Other people might not know, but Amy was well aware that Franco was Petty’s husband. Even if they were getting divorced, he wouldn’t go out of his way to make things difficult for her, right? He wouldn’t purposely hold up her interview… or would he?

Petty opened her laptop and checked the broadcast schedule for the next few days. Her interview was supposed to air during the midday news. The station had cleared a special slot for The White Group’s feature. If Franco kept dragging his feet, her segment would be left empty.

That kind of loss was impossible to measure. And The White Group was their biggest partner. They couldn’t risk upsetting them.

Still, Petty really didn’t want to see Franco again.

Jared called her into his office.

“I watched the interview,” he said. “Honestly, it was fine. But the client’s got all the power here, and they’re pros at finding problems where there aren’t any. Just take one for the team, okay?”

He knew Petty had never had to do a re-interview before, not in her entire career. If word got out, everyone in the industry would hear about it. What he didn’t realize was that this wasn’t why she didn’t want to do it.

If there’d actually been a mistake, redoing the interview would just be a little extra work. Getting her job done well was what mattered most.

Jared tried a different angle. “If you do this, I’ll give you an ‘excellent’ on your year-end review.”

Petty looked up at him. “You mean it?”

“I mean it.”

“Alright.” She stood up.

Jared made a face. “That’s it? That’s your whole reaction?”

“Alright then. If you’re unhappy with the interview, let’s reschedule. When are you free?”

Franco didn’t hesitate. “I’m not available until after the New Year.”

Petty felt her heart sink. “The interview would only take half an hour. It wouldn’t take much of your time.”

Listening to her formal tone, Franco glanced down at the ashes in his tray. His voice got even colder. “My time is valuable.”

The line went dead.

Petty’s hand tightened around her phone.

He was doing this on purpose, no question. The station could fill the slot with other interviews for a day or two, but they couldn’t wait forever. She needed to get this done as soon as possible.
