The Last Time I Cried Your Name novel Chapter 14

Laura glanced at the two men on the floor, both clutching their legs and groaning in pain. They were the same guys who’d attacked Petty that night.

When their eyes met hers, both men quickly looked away, guilt written all over their faces.

She didn’t need to ask. Hassan’s orders had been more than just a simple beating.

But now, watching blood drip steadily from Hassan’s head, Laura felt her jaw tighten. She couldn’t just stand there and do nothing.

Her hand gripped the armrest, knuckles white. She bit her lip and forced her aching body to move, even if it was just a little.

“If I kneel and beg you…” she started, voice trembling.

Suddenly, a strong hand landed on her shoulder. Laura froze.

“That’s enough.”

The quiet, deep voice cut through the chaos. Petty felt it echo in her head, drowning out everything else, leaving her blank and numb, like her mind had just collapsed in on itself.

Laura looked up and realized Franco was standing right next to her. Her eyes, red from holding back tears, caught the light for a second before she looked away, trying to keep herself together. “If that’s what it takes to calm Petty down, I’m willing.”

“Petty, I’m apologizing on Hassan’s behalf.” Laura’s hands were shaking from the effort. Franco glanced at the nanny behind her.

The nanny caught his meaning and gently supported Laura. “Laura, your health isn’t good. You can’t kneel on the cold floor like this.”

“But Hassan…” Laura refused to give up. She turned to Petty, her eyes pleading. “Petty, for the sake of our friendship, let Hassan go. I promise I’ll bring him to apologize to you properly.”

Petty just let out a cold laugh. “The world would be better off without people like him.”

Franco’s eyes lingered on the blood smeared across half of Petty’s face. His voice was quiet, but the weight of it was impossible to ignore. “Petty, that’s enough.”

Petty’s legs had gone numb from kneeling, the feeling spreading up until her heart felt just as dead.

But somehow, with just a few words, Franco managed to stir up a dull ache in her chest, something she’d thought was long gone.

She clenched her jaw, then forced a calm, almost empty smile.

What was the point of any of this?

Her hand, still gripping Hassan’s collar, finally let go.

Laura finally exhaled, relief washing over her. She turned to the bodyguards. “Take him to the hospital.”

Hassan was infamous in Cabinda for being a troublemaker. Today, Petty had not only humiliated him but nearly killed him. There was no way he’d let this go. It wasn’t clear if he was coming to from the pain or just fighting to stay conscious.
