The Last Time I Cried Your Name novel Chapter 152

If he really was working with Abbot… Petty didn’t even want to think about it. The idea that someone she’d grown up with could betray them like that made her sick to her stomach.

But she couldn’t say a single word about her suspicions right now. She couldn’t risk anyone noticing, either. If she gave even the slightest hint, this would all blow up and Franco’s investigation would hit a wall.

Someone had to get rid of the rot inside the White family. No matter what.

Petty smiled at him, forcing herself to sound playful. “Oh? So, how exactly do you plan to help me, Owen?”

She called him Owen—not Franco. Everyone knew that put him below Franco in the White Group hierarchy, not just in title but in money and power, too.

Still, her mind drifted back to that night at The Eminence auction. Franco had bought the sapphire brooch for an insane price—one hundred million. Owen had leaned close and said he could go that high, too. Petty had believed he probably had that much in assets, but auctions meant signing on the spot, and Franco could always up the bid. She just didn’t buy that Owen had pockets that deep.

She couldn’t help but wonder if Owen had been bragging that night, just trying to look good in front of her. Or maybe he actually did have the means.

Owen reached over, his fingers looping around her press badge in a way that was just a little too familiar. “If you’re with me,” he said, voice low and teasing, “I’ll go all in for you. Everything.”

Before Petty could reply, a pen came out of nowhere and smacked right into the back of Owen’s hand.

He jerked away, hissing in pain, dropping her badge. When he looked up, his eyes were cold. Franco was standing not far away, just getting out of a Bentley, handing someone a document he’d just signed.

The pen—probably meant to be in Franco’s hand—had spun across the asphalt and landed right at their feet. There was already a red mark on Owen’s skin.

A chill flashed through his eyes.

Petty glanced to where he was looking and accidentally locked eyes with Franco. For a second, she felt like she’d been caught doing something wrong. She quickly looked away and tugged her coworker’s sleeve. “Let’s go.”
