The Last Time I Cried Your Name novel Chapter 154

Petty flinched at the sharp pain in her wrist and frowned, but Franco didn’t let go. His dark eyes were fixed on her, lips pressed tight, his brow shadowed with a complicated intensity. He loosened his grip just enough to let her know she could breathe, but he didn’t release her. Silently, he began leading her out of the chaos.

Out of nowhere, several black SUVs barreled into the center of the venue. They smashed into the rows of seats. The crash of splintering wood tangled together with gunshots, screams, the wailing of children and the angry shouts of men.

Franco pulled her with steady force through flying bullets, the noise and mad rush around them turning the party into a warzone. Men in black masks poured from the SUVs, chasing the panicked guests.

All of a sudden, a gun was leveled right at them.

Franco’s eyes flashed cold. In one movement, he yanked Petty behind him. His hand shot out and grabbed the gun pointed at them. The moment the man squeezed the trigger, Franco’s grip tightened so violently that he broke the man’s finger and twisted the weapon free.

There was a gunshot. The attacker dropped, a bullet straight to his forehead.

Petty’s heart nearly stopped. She felt the fear hit later than expected, a tidal wave that drained her face of color. In the corner of her eye, she caught another masked figure rushing toward them.

Franco spun the gun in his hand with practiced ease, wrapping his arm around Petty’s waist to pull her close. The other hand lifted, firing off another shot without missing a beat.

Petty crashed back against his chest, blood pounding like thunder in her ears.

Franco whipped around, already taking aim in another direction.

Without warning, Petty wriggled free from his hold.

A chill shot down Franco’s spine, his whole body tensing as he watched her dart away. One of the masked men who had been knocked down was dragging himself off the ground, reaching for a gun that lay just out of Franco’s line of sight. Petty saw it before he did.
