The Last Time I Cried Your Name novel Chapter 171

Why did he have to mention that sly little fox?

Petty’s anger surged. She shoved Owen out of her way, took a sudden pause, then stomped hard on his foot before practically sprinting into Malcom’s car.

Owen winced, his face twisted with pain, but there was nothing he could do about it. He just stood there, staring through the windshield at Petty, who looked like she’d finally found her shield the moment she got in.

Her so-called shield… Owen’s gaze shifted to the driver.

The man wore a black baseball cap and a black mask, eyes hidden but body language unmistakable.

Petty buckled up. Out of nowhere, Malcom handed her a pack of disinfectant wipes.

“What’s this for?” she asked, genuinely puzzled.

Malcom tapped a quick message on his phone and showed it to her.

[He grabbed your hand. The flu’s been everywhere lately. Just being careful.]

“You have a point. Better safe than sorry.” Petty obediently took two wipes and carefully cleaned off her hands. Only then did Malcom start the car and cruise into the complex.

Owen lingered, watching the car’s taillights fade before finally heading back to his own vehicle. He picked up a red velvet box from the front seat and then stashed it away in the glove compartment. Lighting a cigarette, he drew deep, filling the car with smoke.

People think they can sneak around in my private lounge? I don’t care what that reporter managed to catch—if someone’s dumb enough to poke the bear, they ought to be ready for the consequences.

Franco, I’m anticipating good news from your end.

With your abilities and my assistant, The White Group and The White Family could basically be yours. I’ll definitely need your help later, Franco. I hope our deal just keeps getting better.

Abbot’s words still echoed faintly in his mind.

Once you step into the mess at the border, there’s no going back.

Deep night. Owen’s car glided into the villa’s garage, the air cool and quiet. His assistant was already waiting, opening the door as soon as he arrived.

Walking closely at Owen’s side, the assistant said, “Earlier this evening, the board sent out a personnel disciplinary notice to all senior management. Direct from the chairman’s office.”

“Who got hit?”

The assistant’s face looked tense. “Jim, Farr, and…” He hesitated. Owen stopped short. In the glass wall ahead, his own shadow looked back at him.

“And me?” Owen asked flatly.

“Yes.”

The assistant explained, “Franco went to one of the White family’s hospitals today. Got stuck in an elevator. He was pissed. Turns out the elevator hadn’t been maintained on schedule. Jim and Farr put their own guy in charge, and he’s been pocketing money left and right.”

“They’ve both been fired. Yours is just a pay cut.”

A pay cut didn’t bother Owen at all.
