She pulled out her phone and dialed a number.
“Any news on Hassan?”
There was a pause while the person on the other end checked something. After a moment, they answered, “Just one thing. Someone caught Hassan being carried out of his club and rushed to the hospital last night. Looks like he got beat up, but the story’s being kept quiet.”
Before Petty could say anything else, her colleague lowered their voice like they were sharing a secret. “It’s because of his sister’s ex. You know who.”
Franco.
Petty didn’t even blink. “Do you know which hospital?”
“One of the White Group’s. Word is Franco’s got the place locked down, like he’s guarding royalty. The security is wild.”
Petty watched the sun break through the clouds, a streak of light slanting across the sky. She narrowed her eyes, thinking.
Franco was just worried she’d go after Hassan again. He didn’t really get her at all.
Even if Franco hadn’t stopped her last night, she never would have gone that far. No way was she going to throw away her future over someone like Hassan. He just wasn’t worth it.
All she really wanted was to see how far Franco would go for Laura.
No surprise there. Everything played out exactly like she expected.
Except for Franco losing it when he got home. She’d never seen that side of him, not once growing up.
The bodyguard came back with her medication. Petty sat at the nurses’ station and let the nurse gently put ointment on her ear.
“Make sure you rest when you get home,” the nurse said, glancing at Petty with a kind smile. She was so pretty, it made people want to look after her.
“Thank you.”
As she headed to the car, Petty noticed a pharmacy across the street.
“Hang on, I need to buy something.”
