The Last Time I Cried Your Name novel Chapter 211

Her teeth chattered as she tried to tear off a piece of the soft bread. Last night, she’d spotted it right away—Franco wasn’t wearing his glasses. She’d been tempted to ask him about it a few times but the words just wouldn’t come.

So it was real.

Back then, after the car accident, Franco lost his sight. She’d stayed by his side, looking after him, never letting up for a single day. Every night, she’d go into the chapel at The White Estate and kneel, praying to anyone who’d listen, begging for Franco to see again. Maybe someone heard her, because his sight came back—though the glasses never went away.

She always told herself not to get greedy, not to wish for too much. Still, deep down, all she wanted was for his eyes to be the way they used to be.

Now they were.

Joy rushed up in her chest—so bright and aching it almost hurt. After all this time, her wish had come true.

She couldn’t help but smile, wiping quickly at her face with the back of her hand so Jay wouldn’t notice the tears. “Did you see Aaron before you came for me? How is he?”

“He got stabbed in the stomach, but he’ll be fine. Just needs some rest,” Jay said. He acted like he hadn’t seen her red eyes, which she appreciated.

Jay’s gaze shifted to the man walking over. He stepped out of the way in that easy, discreet way of his.

“Finish eating, then head upstairs for a nap.” Franco put a warm glass of milk at her elbow. His voice was calm and cool, exactly how it always was.

Petty glanced at the long, slender fingers holding the glass, then kept ducking her head as she shoved more bread into her mouth. “That sleeping bag is brutal,” she mumbled without thinking.

Franco’s eyes flickered, the line of his mouth tightening. That girl, honestly...

She didn’t even realize what she’d just said. Sensing the shift in his mood, she quickly changed the subject. “So, how long is this storm sticking around? Hans wraps up filming today and I need to get to the airport…”

“I’m not Mother Nature,” Franco cut in, clearly annoyed. “If you want to know, go ask the storm yourself.”
