The Last Time I Cried Your Name novel Chapter 261

“The case is just about wrapped up. It’s getting pretty late now, so we probably won’t make it today, but we’ll need you at the station tomorrow to give your statement.”

Still, Petty had this unsettled feeling she couldn’t shake. She looked over at the officer. “Can I see her?”

He shook his head. “She’s already been moved to the holding center and no one’s allowed in except her lawyer.”

Petty nodded. She understood. At least the killer had been caught. There was no way she’d escape the death penalty.

Holding onto that thought, Petty made her way back to the hospital. Hans had been moved into a VIP suite. She figured he’d be asleep, so she quietly turned the door handle and stepped into the room.

The suite was spacious. There was a sitting area up front, and Hans’s room was further inside.

As she walked in, she overheard Parrish’s assistant talking quietly. “Franco went to the police station himself. Spent some time in the interrogation room.”

On the couch, a man started to speak. He looked up, his eyes cold and unreadable, landing on Petty.

Her hand tightened around the doorknob. “Parrish.”

He nodded. “You’re back.”

Hans’s parents had split when he was really young. His dad pretty much left the country to get away from Tod’s constant nagging, so it was Parrish, his older brother, who raised him.

Parrish was only thirty-two, but he always seemed older. He was serious, steady, and everyone in Cabinda respected him. He was the kind of man people actually looked up to.

To Petty, Parrish was like a second father to Hans.

She gave him a respectful nod, closed the door, and stepped farther inside. “You said Franco questioned that woman himself?” she asked the assistant.

The assistant hesitated, glancing at Parrish, who answered, “It’s fine.”

The assistant finally nodded. “Yeah, Petty, but that’s all we know.”
