He was still cracking jokes, but the second he picked up on Franco’s mood, he wiped the grin off his face and fell in pace with him down the stairs.
They only spoke when they reached the bottom, making sure nobody upstairs could overhear. He kept his voice low. “Laura hired a hitman. If Hans hadn’t taken the hit, Petty would be dead right now. Are you really planning to protect Laura?”
Franco lit a cigarette. He’d cleaned the blood from his face, so now there was nothing left but that cold, unreadable expression.
He didn’t say a word, just took a slow drag in silence.
Finally, he stubbed out the cigarette and said softly, “Laura’s bone marrow means everything to me.”
Galen froze in place.

After Franco got Petty safely out of The Glades, the Green family sent a team of bodyguards to lock down the place. With their power, snatching Laura would’ve been easy.
But when they arrived, the whole building was already empty.
The head bodyguard immediately called Parrish.
Parrish answered, his voice steady and even. “Looks like Franco really is set on protecting Laura.”
No question about it, Franco had moved her. Parrish had suspected as much. Hardly anyone could predict what Franco would do next, and it was clear to him that planning had started right after Franco had interrogated her yesterday.
“She won’t be out of the country yet. Keep searching. She’s still in Cabinda,” Parrish said.
After the call, Parrish turned and spotted Hans finally awake in his hospital bed. He walked over and leaned in close to him.
“Hans.”
