Today was the last day of the Christmas holiday. Work started again tomorrow. After Petty dropped Hans off at the hospital, she went back home to Belvedere Heights.
The next morning, she was just about to head out when she opened her front door and spotted a manila envelope sitting on the ground. She glanced up and down the hallway, but no one was around.
Not wanting to take any chances, she went back inside to grab a stick, then poked the envelope from different angles. Once she felt sure it wasn't dangerous, she crouched down and opened it.
Inside was a photo album—the one her grandmother had loved, the same one Franco had given her yesterday.
She didn't have to guess who put it there or who might have ordered someone to do it. It didn't really matter. When she'd managed to escape Misty Vale, she couldn't take anything with her. Right before setting the fire, she'd hidden this album in a secret spot.
Franco had somehow found it.
Without any expression, Petty hugged the album to her chest, went back inside, slid it into a drawer, and then drove to the TV station.

In the editor-in-chief’s office, Jared had been frowning ever since Petty set her resignation letter on his desk. He stared at it for a while, then finally said, “So, you’re quitting just because you got taken off the Everell foreign correspondent list?”
“Do you really think I’m that impulsive?” Petty replied, a little amused.
Jared leaned back in his chair, turning the sealed envelope over and over like he could delay the inevitable by sheer willpower. It was obvious how much he hated the idea of letting her go. He knew she wasn’t the reckless type, but he honestly couldn’t figure out why she’d want to quit. She was one of the most promising reporters around—everyone knew it. Plus, she was genuinely passionate about her job.
Thinking it over, he tried again. “Is this about your husband’s family? Are they making you stop?”
Up until recently, nobody even knew who Petty’s husband was. But after she went viral last time, Franco had stepped forward and confirmed they were married. Just like that, everyone found out Petty was Mrs. White.
