The Last Time I Cried Your Name novel Chapter 366

Clouds swallowed the moon, leaving the room in total darkness.

Franco wrapped his arms around her, holding her tight. He nuzzled into her neck, his lips brushing lightly over the pulse beneath her skin. The kiss was feather-soft. Petty, deep in sleep, never stirred.

She’d showered before bed, pulling a silk nightgown from the closet. It fit perfectly, hugging her in all the right places. But as Franco held her, both thin straps slipped off her shoulders and slid down her arms.

Once his eyes adjusted to the blackness, Franco lifted his head from her neck, breathing in a scent so haunting it made his heart leap. He leaned down, letting the tip of his nose trail against something impossibly soft. In her sleep, Petty shifted, and her softness pressed right against his lips.

The temptation he’d been fighting all day ignited, snapping inside him all at once.

...

Petty slept deeper than usual, the essential oils working their magic. Her dreams tossed her between feeling like she was drowning, gasping for air, and curling up in a pool of gentle warmth, as if someone had wrapped her up beside a heater.

She woke slowly, stretching her sore right hand, then pushed herself up in bed. The blackout curtains were closed tight, shutting out every speck of daylight, but a lamp glowed softly in the next room. Its light spilled in through a screen, making the bedroom gently lit but never bright enough to disturb her sleep.

She had no idea what time it was.

Automatically, she reached for her phone, then remembered she hadn’t brought it. The room was empty except for her.

Swinging her legs over the side of the bed, she stood. The cool silk hem of her nightgown slid from her thighs down to her calves. She padded to the window and pulled the long curtains open.

Sunlight poured in, blinding and fierce. Petty squeezed her eyes shut and stepped back. When she finally adjusted, she saw the sun blazing straight overhead.

She and Franco hadn’t been together that many times, but she was no stranger to intimacy. Her body felt normal, which told her Franco hadn’t crossed a line while she was asleep. Besides, if he had and she didn’t wake up, she must have been out cold.

She picked up the discarded nightgown. The scent of heather clung to the silk, making her cheeks burn and the flush creep down her neck.

She dropped it, flexing her sore right hand in disbelief. He actually—

A faint door click echoed from the other room. Petty heard footsteps getting closer.

She snatched the nightgown from the trash, marched to the bathroom door, and hurled it straight at Franco.
