The Last Time I Cried Your Name novel Chapter 387

“Let’s give it a shot.”

Using him as a guinea pig?

“Alright, Malcom, you go take a seat on the sofa. I’ll call you when dinner’s ready.” Petty slid on her apron and got busy chopping and prepping.

Malcom didn’t budge. He just stood there with his crutch, quietly watching her hustle around the kitchen, her hair a bit messy and her movements a bit frantic. She looked totally in her own world.

His phone buzzed in his pocket, pulling him away. He moved to the living room, settled onto the sofa, and took out his phone. Jay had sent over a draft for some official statement, probably work stuff. He didn’t bother to read it. A message from Jay came right after: Franco, the draft is ready.

He replied with one hand. I’ll take care of the rest when I get back.

Jay messaged back immediately. Got it.

Out on the balcony, Aaron was answering a call. In the kitchen, Petty eyed the soy bean paste up on the highest shelf. Last time, Aaron put it away, and for him it was easy to reach. For Petty, though, it was miles out of reach.

She was just about to drag a chair over for a boost when a hand appeared right next to her head, reaching up into the cabinet. Malcom grabbed the unopened jar for her.

Petty turned and smiled as he twisted the lid and handed it over. “Thanks, Malcom. Being tall really is a superpower.”

She walked back to the stove, humming as she worked. Malcom stayed put, just watching her cook. The kitchen was filled with the sounds and smells of dinner, and for a second, he felt like he’d stepped into someone’s warm little world. He couldn’t look away.

Petty put the stew together and covered the pot, then turned around, surprised to see Malcom still standing in the kitchen.

“Why aren’t you watching TV?” she asked, her bright eyes shining with curiosity. “It’s so quiet in here. Doesn’t anyone ever turn it on?”

Malcom just looked at her for a moment, then left the room. Soon he was back, remote in hand, holding it out to her.
