The Last Time I Cried Your Name novel Chapter 408

Engines roared near the dock, cutting through the quiet night. Bright headlights stabbed through the fog by the river, lighting up the open space in front of the red house.

Abbot narrowed his eyes, his face hardening. “The White family is here.”

Petty’s heart skipped a beat. Did Franco already know something was wrong? That made sense. There was a warehouse nearby owned by the White family, one that had been locked down while Franco was being investigated. It had only reopened a couple of days ago. No wonder they got here so fast.

“Move!” Abbot snapped.

His men sprang into action, but their eyes kept drifting toward the approaching cars. One of them shoved Petty forward, jamming the cold barrel of a gun into her back. On instinct, Petty slammed her heel down on his foot.

He yelped in pain. In that split second, she spun around, grabbed his wrist, and twisted his hand hard in the opposite direction. Before anyone could blink, she’d wrestled the gun away and had it aimed straight at Abbot’s head.

“Don’t even think about it,” she warned.

Everyone froze. It was as if time had stopped. Every pair of eyes in the clearing locked on her, tense and wary.

The cars were getting closer, the tension growing with each second, but Abbot only smiled, unbothered. “This was supposed to be simple. I didn’t expect all this attention.”

Petty was suddenly uneasy. Her gut told her something was off. Just as the cars reached fifty meters from the red house, a deafening blast ripped through the night. Explosions sent all five vehicles flipping through the air. Flames erupted, waves of heat rolling over the clearing.

Firelight flickered in Petty’s eyes, making her face go pale. She pressed the gun even harder against Abbot’s temple, her anger boiling just under the surface.

Abbot lifted his chin, not flinching from the gun or the chaos behind him. “Not bad. You’ve definitely gotten better since last time. Found someone to teach you a few new tricks? You’re a quick learner, Petty. A real natural.”

Petty’s finger curled around the trigger. Then Abbot sighed, almost like he was disappointed.
