The Last Time I Cried Your Name novel Chapter 73

Petty paused, caught off guard.

Something felt off the moment she saw the words “President’s Office.” Owen might be the vice president, but his rank was nowhere near Franco’s, so there was no way he’d be working on this floor. And now, her suspicion was confirmed.

Her colleague looked just as shocked by the sudden change. “Weren’t we supposed to interview Owen? We spent all night prepping for this. You can’t just swap people and not give us a heads-up…”

The secretary didn’t look the slightest bit flustered. She answered smoothly, “Owen had something urgent come up this morning. So, to make sure you didn’t come all this way for nothing, our president, Franco, will be taking the interview instead.”

Then she turned to Petty. “You’re an experienced reporter, Petty. I’m sure just switching out the names in the script won’t be too much trouble, right?”

“No problem,” Petty replied, forcing herself to stay put instead of walking right out the door.

The more she cared, the more she’d look like a fool. The more she dodged Franco, the more obvious it’d be that she couldn’t move on. This was the job she loved—why should she let some guy mess with her professionalism? She’d treat him like any other interviewee, someone completely unrelated to her. Just another NPC she had to interact with to finish the quest. That thought made her feel a little better.

Her two colleagues gave her a quick glance, then nodded.

The secretary dipped her head. “Please wait a moment. Franco’s meeting will be done in about ten minutes.”

Someone brought in tea and snacks. Petty sat in the lounge, waiting. After about ten minutes, the door swung open.
