Nora couldn’t bring herself to be angry at Charlotte, so she turned her frustration on Franco. “Look at the father you picked! If Lottie gets even a scratch, I’m not letting the Hawk Family off the hook.”

Franco let out a long breath, caught somewhere between anger and helplessness. This wasn’t exactly something he could control.

“Alright, alright, it’s my fault. Blame my bad judgment.”

He reached out to smooth his wife’s hair, trying to calm her. His voice was low and steady. “Don’t worry, I’ll go with Lottie this time. Anthony and I will keep them safe. Nothing’s going to happen.”

Nora opened her mouth, but the words just wouldn’t come.

She’d wanted to talk Lottie out of going. But with Newell’s connection to their family, there was no way Lottie would turn her back. And Nora didn’t want her daughter to be ungrateful either.

Still, she was seriously worried about the baby.

Just then, Anthony came out of the kitchen, carrying a bowl of soup. He sat down next to Charlotte, blowing gently on the steaming broth before offering it to her.

He glanced up at Nora and Franco. “We’ve already made it through so much. We’re not going to mess it up now.”

“You really think Lottie should go to the Isle of Veil?” Nora asked, looking over at Anthony.

“I’ll back her up no matter what,” Anthony said with a little smile. Even though he looked a bit worried, the way he gazed at Charlotte was pure, absolute devotion. “If the world comes crashing down, I’ll be the one holding it up for her.”

Charlotte looked up, meeting his warm, steady eyes. A hint of a smirk tugged at her lips.

Anthony was really turning on the charm today. He definitely deserved a reward for that.
