The Mocked Miss’s Hidden Crowns novel Chapter 1373

J was actually going to show up at the signing event. She’d even agreed to meet them in person before deciding who to sign with. And… well…

“Wait, you mean N? Like, the legendary N from the hacker world?” Emily wiped her mouth, frowning as she chewed on her straw. “You’re telling me you paid just a million and managed to get J’s contact info?”

Kenneth grinned, popping a cherry into his mouth. His eyes crinkled, that handsome face of his turning a little mischievous. “Yup.”

Emily took another gulp of her milk tea, trying to steady herself. “So, let me get this straight…”

“You dropped a million, found the hacker N, and not only did N get you J’s number, but actually convinced her to meet us face-to-face?”

“That’s exactly it.” Kenneth checked his watch. J should be on her way.

Emily set her drink down, her expression growing serious as she looked at Kenneth. “Kenneth, are you absolutely sure you’re not getting scammed?”

Since when could anyone just hire N for a million? And J herself, coming here in person? The more Emily thought about it, the more suspicious it all sounded.

Kenneth’s smile faltered, worry flickering across his face. Everything was going way too smoothly… Was it possible he’d been conned?

“Hold on!” Kenneth pulled out his phone and called Jackson, his voice anxious. “Where’s J now?”

“She’s almost at the station,” Jackson replied.

“Send me her contact info.” Kenneth’s nerves were getting the better of him. If this really was a scam, he needed to have a backup plan.

Jackson hesitated, looking conflicted. Handing over the contact info would basically mean revealing Charlotte’s identity. He wasn’t sure if that was his call to make.

As he stalled, a girl’s voice called out, “Kenneth, Anthony and Charlotte are here.”

Anthony and Lottie?

“There are too many reporters outside. Let’s go meet them.”

“Alright.” Kenneth frowned, reminding Jackson to send the contact info. He hung up and followed Emily outside.

Watching Emily’s back, Charlotte found herself picturing the heroine from the Storm comic. Emily really did seem like the perfect fit. Charlotte smiled, grabbed her phone, and messaged the company. She asked them to redo the contract and invite Emily to the signing as well.

The company didn’t waste any time. A few moments later, Emily’s phone rang.

“Okay, got it.” Emily hung up, still in shock. Good news had come so fast, she could hardly believe it. Maybe Kenneth hadn’t been scammed after all?

Before she could process everything, a sharp voice rang out behind her. “Are you blind? If you hurt Sabina, can you pay for it?”

Emily turned around just in time to see Sabina and her assistant giving Charlotte a hard time. Emily’s eyes went cold. She moved in a heartbeat, but before she could do anything, Charlotte snatched the assistant’s outstretched hand in a quick, firm grip.

Charlotte tightened her hold, her eyes glinting icily above her mask. “Whether I can pay or not, do you want to find out?”

The assistant grimaced, trying to yank her hand free. “Let go!”

Even with most of her face hidden, the chill in Charlotte’s eyes was enough to make anyone’s blood run cold.
