Charlotte slipped her arm over Stella’s shoulders, her eyes cool and unreadable as she glanced over at Karan and Pandora. A small, knowing smile curled at her lips. “Just wait. Things are about to get interesting.”
Stella nodded, quiet as ever, and trailed after Charlotte to the seats in the back.
The reporters were a mess, caught completely off guard by how fast everything had changed. Both of Cabinda’s hottest drama magnets had just landed in this very room. Take down Shirley, then grab a comment from Charlotte. It was their lucky day.
“Are you the boy in the video?” someone asked.
The boy in the black hoodie was led to the front. He looked terrified, shaking under the stares of the school officials and the relentless camera equipment. “It wasn’t me. I swear… it was…” His eyes darted around, searching for someone—anyone to save him. Finally, his gaze locked on Karan. Suddenly, desperation pushed the words out. “It was her. She told me to steal the phone.”
Her?
Everyone turned, following where he pointed, and the whole room was thrown for a loop.
Karan and Pandora?
People knew the two girls well. Their grandfathers were both Gallaghers, legends at The Cabinda University. But what were Karan and Pandora doing here, getting mixed up in Shirley’s scandal?
“What are you even saying?” Karan snapped. The moment she realized the boy was accusing her, a flash of panic shot across her face, but she covered it up fast, looking cool and in control. “I don’t know you at all.”
“You just want someone to take the fall for what you did?”
Take the fall?
The boy’s voice trembled. “Miss, you paid me. You asked me to steal the phone. You took it, typed out a message on her phone, sent it... and then had me put the phone back. All of it was you. How can you just pretend none of it happened?”
