Back at the hotel.
Charlotte grabbed a quick bite, only waking up when the sky outside had already darkened.
She stared at the gifts piled on the table.
Picking up her phone, she initiated a video call with Anthony.
It rang for a long time before someone finally answered.
"?"
She frowned, the anticipation fading from her face just as the screen connected.
"Lottie."
"Waaaah..."
On the screen, Anthony appeared in a sharp suit and tie, with Fred and Ophie clinging to his sides, both wailing at the top of their lungs.
The twins were inconsolable; neither Helen nor the other maids could even get close.
The scene was absolute chaos.
"You weren't here last night, and the kids have been a mess ever since," Anthony said, holding them close and swaying gently. "I finally got them to sleep, but they woke up crying again. They probably miss you."
Miss her?
Weren't these two chubby bunnies usually joined at Anthony's hip?
"Mommy."
Anthony sat down, adjusting the camera angle. The moment the crying babies saw their mother's face, they went dead silent, their tear-filled eyes staring intently at the screen.
"What's with the tears?"
Charlotte cupped her chin in her hands, her voice incredibly patient as she looked at her red-eyed babies. "Mommy will be home in three days."
"Mommy..."
Ophie gripped the iPad with her tiny hands, crystal-clear tears rolling down her cheeks.
"..."
Fred pouted, his eyes still swimming with unshed tears.
They really missed their mommy.
"Listen to Daddy, and I'll bring you both presents when I get back."
Looking at her pitiful children and her exhausted husband, she couldn't help but frown.
"..."
The two little ones sniffled, finally settling down.
They had cried themselves out and were ready for their bottles.
"Helen." Anthony gestured for the maid and the nanny, trying to see if they could take the babies now.
"Whimper..."
