Leilani paused, turning slowly. Her eyes were as cold as ice. "My attitude depends on whether she deserves it."

Tamara's face went pale, and tears fell instantly. "Leilani, I know you hate me, but I really want to get along with you..."

"Are you done acting?" Leilani scoffed. "I've watched this routine for so long, I'm bored of it."

Leilani gave them no respect at all. Her sharp tongue was like a bundle of thorns—whoever touched it got pricked.

Realizing he couldn't keep Leilani there with words, Hackett's face filled with gloom, his eyes vicious. He snorted coldly and signaled Zadie with his eyes.

"You're rebelling! Where do you think you are? Coming and going as you please? Since you're back today, don't even think about walking out that door!"

He waved his hand toward the entrance. Three burly bodyguards immediately blocked the door, staring menacingly at Leilani.

Leilani swept a glance over them, the corner of her lips hooking into a cold sneer. "What, words didn't work, so now you're using force?"

"You are staying here today!" Hackett said sternly. "The Lambert marriage isn't up to you to refuse!"

Leilani slowly set her bag down aside, rolling her wrists. Her gaze was sharp. "Try it then."

Before the words settled, the lead bodyguard reached for her shoulder. Leilani's body flashed. She grabbed his wrist in a reverse grip and executed a crisp, clean shoulder throw.

The bodyguard slammed heavily onto the floor, groaning. Before he could react, Leilani already had one foot planted on his chest. She looked coldly at the other two. "Both of you. At once."

The two bodyguards exchanged a glance and lunged simultaneously. Leilani moved like lightning. She side-stepped the first man's punch, driving a brutal elbow into his ribs. As he doubled over in pain, she launched a knee strike that flipped him over.
