Dante chimed in, pointing a finger at his grandson. “Is that boy bullying you? If Callahan treats you poorly, you tell me immediately. I’ll sort him out!”

Callahan stood silently, thoughts racing through his mind. “Am I actually his biological grandson? Who talks about their own flesh and blood like that?”

Leilani stifled a laugh, accustomed to Dante’s playful antagonism toward Callahan. “Callahan is always very good to me.”

Letty nodded approvingly, shooting her son a warning glance. “He’d better be.”

While Dante engaged Leilani in lively conversation and Letty kept her cup full, Callahan sat in a single armchair, watching the scene with a quiet, contented smile. It was rare to see the house this warm.

However, the pleasant atmosphere was interrupted as the family branch represented by Talbot drifted downstairs, drawn by the commotion.
