"Mr. Sloan, Mrs. Sloan, this situation isn't as simple as you think."
"What's not simple about it?" Hackett sneered. "Is it just that the Sherwoods are riding high right now, so you think you can walk all over the Sloans? Let me make one thing crystal clear: if anything happens to my daughter or that baby, I will spend the rest of my life destroying you!"
Before Hackett and Zadie's tirade could even pause, the door swung violently open again. Fitch and Gloria Sherwood marched in.
Fitch's face was as dark as a storm cloud. His piercing gaze swept over the chaotic room before locking onto Milford. "You disgraceful bastard!"
He closed the distance in three long strides and, before anyone could react, delivered a brutal, resounding slap across Milford's face!
“Smack!”
The sharp crack echoed off the hospital walls, leaving the entire room in stunned silence.
The sheer force of the blow threw Milford's head to the side. A thin trail of blood instantly leaked from the corner of his mouth, and a glaring red handprint began swelling on his cheek.
Gloria let out a horrified gasp and immediately threw herself in front of her son, shielding him. "Fitch! What on earth are you doing?"
She cupped Milford's bruised face, whirling around to glare at her husband. "Have you lost your mind? Why would you hit him before we even know the whole story?"
Fitch hadn't held back in the slightest. He had struck with genuine, ruthless force.
Within a single minute, Milford's usually pristine jawline was marred by a severe, throbbing welt. It was a shocking sight just to witness.
Fitch's chest heaved with exertion as he pointed a trembling finger at Milford. "You have the nerve to ask me that? Tamara being pregnant is a massive deal, and you chose to hide it from your own family? Now look at this circus! You've completely dragged the Sherwood name through the mud!"
Milford pressed his tongue against the inside of his stinging cheek and let out a dark, humorless chuckle. "Dad, I think you've got this all entirely backwards."
He slowly lifted his gaze, his eyes devoid of any warmth as they locked onto Tamara in the hospital bed. "You should be asking her exactly how this miraculous pregnancy came to be."
"Enough."
His voice wasn't particularly loud, but it possessed a commanding weight that instantly silenced the room.
Milford turned to Fitch, his words measured and deliberate. "Dad, if you want to hit me or curse me out, I'll take it. But let me make one thing abundantly clear."
His freezing gaze shifted to Tamara. "I will never acknowledge a child born out of a manipulative trap. The rest of you can sort out this mess yourselves!"
With that, he turned on his heel and stormed out. The violent slam of the door shook the room, leaving everyone startled in his wake.
Inside the ward, the atmosphere turned thick and suffocating.
After Milford's dramatic exit, Fitch took a slow, deep breath, expertly hiding the ruthless glint in his eyes. When he turned back to Hackett and Zadie, his face was already the picture of gentle remorse.
