Tamara pursed her lips, glancing hesitantly at Leilani before meekly voicing Leilani's supposed disgrace.
"Also... what Carola said might sound harsh, but it's the truth! My sister... she really did something wrong back then."
The two of them played off each other, seemingly determined to drag Leilani's name through the mud right there in public.
Hearing this, Judie didn't waver. Instead, she let out a scoff. "Oh, I was wondering who this was. Turns out it's just two gossiping harpies."
She crossed her arms, looking Tamara up and down with disdain. "You say Dr. Sloan went to prison? Do you know why? Do you know the truth? Is everyone who went to prison automatically a bad person? I heard you claiming to be her sister, so you two must be close. Why aren't you defending your sister instead of helping an outsider?"
Tamara choked, not expecting Judie to be so aggressive. She could only offer a dry rebuttal. "The court gave the verdict; how could it be fake?"
Judie rolled her eyes. "The court? Is a court verdict infallible? Plenty of people have been wrongly convicted over the years. How do you know Dr. Sloan wasn't one of them?" She sneered, her tone sharp. "Besides, even if Dr. Sloan went to prison, so what? She saved my life today! And you? Apart from wagging your tongues here, what can you do?"
Tamara looked tearful and aggrieved, as if Judie had bullied her terribly.
Carola angrily tried to step forward to argue, but Judie cut her off. "And you, you're quite the dedicated lackey, aren't you? If she says 'jump,' you ask 'how high? What, are you expecting a bonus from her?"
Carola's face flushed red. "You—"
"Judie," Letty spoke faintly, her tone carrying an undeniable authority. "Don't waste time with irrelevant people."
